AI in Professional Communication
Map AI’s role in professional communication across sectors and tool categories, separate production from judgement, and place your own tasks on the Augmentation Ladder.

Write, Speak and Present Better with AI
Produce polished professional writing faster with one repeatable four-stage workflow — brief, draft, edit, check — that works for anything from a two-line email to a ten-page report.
Keep your own voice in every AI-assisted draft using the VOICE Calibration Check: a five-point pre-send test for Vocabulary, Ownership, Intent, Context Sensitivity, and Emotion.
Prepare for high-stakes spoken communication — a difficult one-to-one, a team briefing, a client call — in the time you actually have, while genuinely owning what you say.
Build a presentation end to end with AI as a structured thinking partner, from brief to structure to slide content to delivery notes, without losing the ownership that makes it convincing.
Decide when AI should lead a communication and when your own direct voice is what the situation requires, using a clear stakes-and-relationship decision model.
Turn these capabilities into habits in your real working week with a personalised 30-day communication plan built around your actual workload — not one-off experiments.
Work from ready-made, market-tested prompts for emails, reports, presentations, and difficult conversations, all structured with PRISM and checked with TRUST.
Module by module, in the order they are assigned.
Map AI’s role in professional communication across sectors and tool categories, separate production from judgement, and place your own tasks on the Augmentation Ladder.
Apply Brief, Draft, Edit, Check to move professional writing from intent to verified final copy, using PRISM briefs, substance-emphasis-voice edits, zero-drafts, and TRUST checks.
Calibrate AI-assisted writing so drafts carry your own vocabulary, rhythm, judgement, warmth, and relationship context through VOICE and a reusable personal style brief.
Use AI before spoken moments to clarify outcomes, anticipate reactions, structure briefings and run pre-mortems, then review transcripts, summaries, actions and consent after the room.
Build presentations with AI from brief to structure, content, speaker-note cues, and questions while keeping judgement, TRUST checks, and ownership over every deck.
Decide how far AI should lead in each communication by using stakes, relationship, channel, hard lines, and GUARD, then build a focused habit plan across writing, speaking, and presenting.
The course closes with a timed final exam with a pass mark and a limited number of attempts. A pass issues a PDF certificate with its own serial, in the name of the Straits Institute for Applied AI. Cohort progress, at-risk learners and a CSV export are in the admin console throughout.
No specialist expertise is needed. The course is written for professionals who have already used AI for at least one communication task — most often drafting an email or summarising a document — and know the first output usually needs work. Every framework it uses is explained from scratch, so it works as a standalone. If you are completely new to AI, AI+ Everyone (T1-01) or AI+ At Work: Foundations (T1-02) give useful grounding, but they are recommended, not required.
That worry is exactly what the course is built to solve. AI drafts come back fluent and plausible but not quite right — too formal for one colleague, too breezy for one client, missing the relationship only you carry. You will learn the VOICE Calibration Check, a thirty-second pre-send test, and how to build a personal style brief that trains AI to write in your voice so recipients who know you do not notice a difference.
It treats communication as one unified skill. Many professionals experience writing, speaking, and presenting as separate activities; the course connects them. Alongside the writing workflow, you get verbal-preparation playbooks for difficult one-to-ones, client calls, and briefings, and a full AI-assisted workflow for building and delivering presentations.
It is six modules of about sixty minutes each, structured as watch, try, and practise. It finishes with a personalised 30-day plan that embeds the workflow into your real working week, so the goal is communication that is noticeably faster and better within the next thirty days — not someday.
Yes, with discipline, and the course teaches that discipline directly rather than leaving it to an appendix. You will apply the AI Safety Checklist and a safety check before you paste anything sensitive — replacing names and identifying details with placeholders and using dummy data for practice — and you will learn the hard lines: the communications where AI must not lead and your own direct voice is what the moment requires.
Yes. It is written for a broad professional audience above entry level, including people using English as a working language and experienced professionals re-entering environments where AI tools are now expected. The tone respects your professional experience without assuming you are already fluent with AI, and the chapter on what AI does not change is written with exactly these readers in mind.
